Andrew Haddad is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the group of Robert Kostecki at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research interests include the water-energy nexus, energy efficient desalination, and valuable ion mining from water. At Berkeley Lab Andrew is focused on reducing the cost of treating high salinity waters by using solar energy combined with thermally responsive materials, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero liquid discharge and closing the water loop. Previously, Andrew was an ITRI Rosenfeld Postdoctoral Fellow in the Gadgil group where he synthesized high porosity materials for energy efficient and highly effective fluoride removal from water. Andrew obtained his PhD in inorganic chemistry from the University of Louisville in 2017 where he focused on synthesizing new catalysts for electrochemical hydrogen oxidation/production and carbon dioxide reduction, as well as investigating their reaction mechanisms.
